About

Shane J. Schvaneveldt is a Brady Presidential Distinguished Professor of Supply Chain Management and teaches in the Goddard School’s supply chain management program. 

He holds a PhD from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he studied quality and operations management under two different recipients of the Deming Prize. He is a recipient of a Fulbright Scholar Award, Nikkei Quality Management Literature Prize and Green Pioneer Award. 

Schvaneveldt’s teaching and research focus on quality management, operations/supply chain management and environmental sustainability for business. His publications have appeared in leading academic journals, books and practitioner handbooks on topics including service quality, customer satisfaction, lean systems, inventory management and environmentally sustainable operations, societal perspectives on quality and innovative pedagogical methods.  

Schvaneveldt has served as an examiner for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and as president of the Association of Japanese Business Studies with membership from more than 30 countries. He also served as co-director of U.S.-Japan Center of Utah, which was one of 12 centers nationwide in the U.S.- Japan Industry and Technology Management Training Program network that included Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon University and University of Pittsburgh, University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University and others.
