Frequently Asked Questions

When will I be able to access my VSP account?
Although coverage will extend retroactively to Dec. 1, 2024, the migration will not be completed until Jan. 3, 2025. This doesn’t affect the coverage, but will affect your ability to access your account until after that date. After Jan. 3, you can access the VSP website and click on “create account” in the upper right corner. In the meantime, please save receipts for any covered expenses so they can be reimbursed. Contact benefits@weber.edu for questions regarding how to submit receipts.

When can I expect to receive an ID card in the mail?
ID cards will not be processed until after the migration to VSP is finalized in early January. EMI Health will begin sending out cards shortly after that, but it may take several weeks to receive yours. After Jan. 3, you will be able to access all benefit information by creating an account online.

Does this benefit cover eye exams?
Vision insurance, whether through Opticare previously or VSP now, does not cover eye exams. However, PEHP does cover an annual eye exam at 100%, regardless of whether you carry vision insurance or not. Please utilize our medical insurance benefit when you visit your eye doctor for a routine exam.

How has my coverage changed?
There have been very minor changes in coverage with the migration to VSP. In order to help you see the former Opticare plan side by side with the new VSP plan, here are links to both coverage summary documents:

What is the VSP Savings Pass, and how does it differ from VSP insurance?
In the original notification email from Human Resources regarding the vision insurance change, this VSP Savings Pass document was included as an attachment. It is not related to the insurance coverage but is, instead, a savings opportunity available to anyone, regardless of coverage. We wanted you to be able to review this option as you consider whether or not to continue with vision insurance.

What providers are available through VSP?
A list of VSP in-network providers can be found through the VSP Vision Care website.

When searching for a doctor through VSP's website, I've noticed that some providers are marked as "VSP Premier Edge." What does that mean?               VSP Premier Edge is available to all VSP members for no additional cost and is part of the VSP network. When visiting a Premier Edge location, members have access to additional perks and value. You can visit the link above for more information and answers to Premier Edge FAQs. Keep in mind when searching for providers, that all Premier Edge providers are in network, but not all in-network providers are designated as Premier Edge participants.

How do I opt out of VSP vision insurance?
You have until Jan. 16, 2025 to opt out of coverage through VSP. If you opt out, your benefit will cease immediately and premiums will no longer be deducted from your paycheck. You will not be able to re-enroll in a Vision Plan until Open Enrollment, for an effective date of July 1, 2025. In order to opt out, please complete this brief Qualtrics survey.
