Community And Connection

The Dumke Arts Plaza features major art installations as well as community-led arts programming ranging from small concerts, to dance performances, to video art. It is a space to engage with art in all its forms, but also a place for everyday gatherings — sharing lunch with a friend, or enjoying a family visit. 

The plaza represents the transformation of a blighted motel property into an innovative civic space that brings the community together around art in Ogden’s dynamic Nine Rails Creative District. The plaza’s design, inspired by the region's dynamic landscape, has the flexibility to support many types of art, from large-scale installations to small performances, and includes an LED screen for displaying film and video art.

Through a partnership with Ogden City, the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery curates rotating, outdoor exhibitions at the Dumke Arts Plaza. These exhibitions showcase the work of regional, national and international artists and share world-class art with the community in a dynamic, outdoor civic space.

Focused on urban arts design and planning, the Matthew S. Browning Center for Design will be an experimental and collaborative environment where students develop, research and create community engaged projects. Students will grow as artists, problem solvers and innovators as they gain experience with authentic real-world tasks and challenges.

The Nine Rails Plaza is an arts-based plaza at the southwest corner of 25th Street and Ogden Ave. The plaza is home to all sorts of arts events with maximum flexibility – from intimate concerts and live performances to film screenings and art installations. The plaza is a space for everyday gatherings – a place to eat lunch, meet a friend and bring family.

WSU’s Department of Visual Art & Design is proud to partner with other community stakeholders in the creation of the new hub of creativity in Ogden.

Arts in the Parks

Arts in the Parks is a free program that offers opportunities for children to explore visual and performing arts through hands-on activities.

The program travels to several different Ogden City parks for one week at a time during the summer months. It is a collaborative effort between the Weber State University Telitha E. Lindquist College of Arts and Humanities, the Jerri and Vicki Moyes College of Education, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Center for Community Engaged Learning, and the Ogden City School District Child Nutrition Summer Lunch Program.

The program began in 2010 and is made possible through generous funding from the Weber County RAMP program, the Alan and Jeanne Hall Endowment for Community Outreach, and private donations.
