WSU’s top automotive program inspires student to move across country

OGDEN, Utah — When Tyler Brown graduated high school in Louisville, Kentucky, he was on a quest to enroll in a premier automotive program. His search led him to Weber State University, whose automotive technology program is recognized as one of the top 10 in the nation.Tyler Brown works on vehicle parts in the automotive shop.

“I wasn’t sure I was ready to move across the country, away from my friends and family,” Brown said. “But, once I got here, I was immediately treated like family by the professors and students, and that really made the decision easy.”

After high school, Brown attended a community college in Kentucky and started searching for automotive programs, but found that most were only two-year programs.

Weber State stood out because of its four-year program focused on training students extensively before sending them out to the “real world,” he said.

Brown said the program has allowed him to interact with professionals and get hands-on experience working on all types of vehicles, including electric.

“I thought there would be so many students in the program, but that wasn’t the case,” he said. “It’s so easy to interact with our instructors and get valuable feedback from them because they aren’t overwhelmed with tons of students.”

Brown is focused on his future and plans to graduate in 2025. He aims to use the skills he’s gaining at WSU to pursue a career in the automotive field.
