WSU Moyes College of Education Earns National Accreditation of Educator Preparation Program
OGDEN – The Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) has awarded full seven-year accreditation to Weber State University’s educator preparation program.
After reviewing the evidence collected through a process of self-study and peer review, the AAQEP Accreditation Commission issued the decision during its April meeting, offering the following rationale:
The program presented compelling evidence that it meets all AAQEP standards. The evidence showed that program completers are prepared to work effectively as professional educators and are able to adapt to different contexts and to grow professionally. Program capacity to analyze and provide evidence for sustained actions and revisions on behalf of candidates was evident and sufficient to meet AAQEP standards. The program demonstrated that it collaborates successfully with stakeholders and partners to strengthen each other’s work as well as the broader P-20 education system.
“We are pleased for AAQEP accreditation of our teacher preparation programs,” said Clay Rasmussen, teacher education department chair. “It represents the dedication of the teacher education faculty and staff in providing precise and quality educational practices.”
National accreditation assures the quality of professional preparation programs through a nongovernmental, nonregulatory process of self-study and peer review. This standards-and evidence-based process serves two broad aims: accountability and continuous improvement. AAQEP’s system, which now has members in 20 states and territories with nearly 120 educator preparation providers pursuing accreditation, is designed to honor local context and foster innovation and collaboration among institutions.
“Congratulations to Weber State University’s Jerry & Vickie Moyes College of Education on the accreditation of its programs,” said AAQEP President and CEO Mark LaCelle-Peterson. “In achieving national accreditation through AAQEP, the faculty, staff and stakeholders have confirmed both that their graduates are ready to take on their professional responsibilities from day one, and the programs continue to innovate and support their local school partners.”
The newly accredited programs include early childhood education, elementary education, special education, secondary education and the graduate certificate in teaching.
