WSU Celebrates 37th Crystal Crest Awards
OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University will celebrate the 37th Crystal Crest Awards April 13 at 7 p.m. in the Shepherd Union Ballroom. Since 1982, the Academy Awards-style ceremony has been hosted to recognize outstanding WSU students, faculty, staff and alumni. Crystal Crest is the crowning awards event of the year, honoring individuals and organizations in 12 categories, including talent, scholarship, teaching, athletics and service.
“Crystal Crest brings the campus and community together,” said Tara Peris-Caputo, director of Student Involvement and Leadership. “It gives us a chance to celebrate the excellence found at Weber State and honor the achievements of outstanding individuals and groups.”
Morgan Saxton is this year’s master of ceremonies. Saxton graduated from Weber State in 2013 in communication with an electronic media emphasis. She now works as an Emmy-winning morning reporter for KUTV 2News.
Entertainment for this year’s Crystal Crest wards will be the LeBaron Singers. The group sprung into the national spotlight in 2018 after a video of the family singing “One Day More” from Les Misérables went viral with more than 11-million views. Since then, the group has made multiple appearances, including a performance on Good Morning America and as featured guest performers at the recent Kelly Clarkson concert in Salt Lake City. Three members of the group, Heidi LeBaron Garn, Juston LeBaron and Kaitlyn Hipwell, are WSU alumi.
In keeping with the Academy Awards theme, the Crystal Crest evening is a formal affair. The finalists in each category will be recognized by campus and community leaders who will then announce the winners, which are a closely guarded secret until the moment of recognition. The event is free and open to the public.
