Weber State’s Day of Giving to raise support for student projects

OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University will hold its first Day of Giving on Thursday and Friday, April 10–11. The event begins at noon April 10 and concludes 24 hours later.

“By structuring our Day of Giving this way, we’re able to have two days of activities to encourage and celebrate donor participation,” said Amber Robson, WSU’s associate director of alumni relations.

While WSU has ongoing fundraising for large-scale university initiatives, Day of Giving is a chance for student groups, colleges, and departments to help fund smaller projects. Examples include:

  • Students gather and talk at an outdoor table on campusBuilding a new beehive in the nutrition program’s greenhouse

  • A WSU orchestra and choir trip to Spain to perform several concerts

  • Purchasing lasers for crime scene investigation courses

  • Student travel to conferences on welding, STEM, athletic training, and more

“Day of Giving allows our students and programs to put a spotlight on projects they care about,” Robson said. “It’s an opportunity for them to share what they’re working on with friends and family, and an easy way for people to donate and support them.”

On April 10, Day of Giving events for students coincide with WSU’s WeberStock end-of-semester celebration. Information tables will give students a chance to learn about the variety of projects, clubs, and initiatives that others are involved in across the university.

The university is also reaching out to alumni and community members through email and social media to encourage them to donate. “Even a small amount can help make many of these projects happen,” Robson said.

While Day of Giving is April 10–11, WSU is accepting early donations. Visit the website to see a complete list of projects that support students.
