WSU to host leading voices on sustainable businesses, communities
OGDEN, Utah — Continuing a 15-year tradition, Weber State University will bring together leading experts on sustainability during its annual Intermountain Sustainability Summit at the Ogden campus March 21–22.
The summit is one of Utah’s largest sustainability events, bringing together thought leaders and emerging professionals from business, government, nonprofit and education sectors.
“This is an opportunity to collaborate not only with people across the region, but also across different sectors,” said Bonnie Christiansen, Sustainability Practices and Research Center manager. “Building relationships makes every piece of work we do easier and opens up more possibilities.”
This year’s theme, Sustainable by Design, centers on the changes people can make, big and small, to advance sustainability in every kind of community.
“Everybody designs. We make choices, we plan,” Christiansen said. “This year’s theme looks at how we can do that sustainably, to ensure we’re designing well and designing for the long haul.”
Unpacking that theme is keynote speaker Jeff Speck, respected author and city planner who advocates internationally for more walkable cities. He is the founding partner of Speck Dempsey, an award-winning urban planning firm serving public and private clients around the world.
Throughout the two-day event, Weber State will also welcome more than 40 dynamic speakers as they host breakout sessions on a range of related topics: electrification of buildings and transportation, water conservation and policy, landscape planning and more.
“Since we started the summit in 2010, we’ve built a strong community that’s been able to make some really impactful changes,” Christiansen said. “We look forward to another year to help further that work.”
Registration is required for workshops and breakout sessions. For a full schedule of events, pricing and registration information, visit the ISS website.
