Dining for Dollars Provides Financial Support for Vulnerable WSU Students

OGDEN, Utah – Sonora Grill in downtown Ogden will host its unique and tasty fundraiser, Dining for Dollars, Feb. 5 from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. to benefit Weber State University’s Oportunidad Scholarship Fund.

All sales from the day will be donated to help support first-generation or low-income students. The money also helps undocumented students, who are ineligible for financial assistance such as FAFSA, grants or loans.

"The scholarship will help make higher education accessible for immigrant students who are ineligible for FAFSA grants and loans,” said Enrique Romo, WSU’s Access & Diversity assistant vice president. “The scholarship will help students meet their education and career goals. It will also give them the opportunity they deserve so they can continue giving back to the community and country where they grew up."

"There are no words to describe my gratitude for the generosity of the donors,” said one student who benefits from the Oportunidad Scholarship. “It is inspiring, and I hope those of us who have received support will be able to similarly give back in the future.”

A special scholarship menu will be offered for $14 and includes a choice of entrée, chips and salsa. Regular menu items will also be available. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 801-393-1999 or at thesonoragrill.com

Sonora Grill is located at 2310 S. Kiesel Ave., Ogden.
