WSU Ready to Help Aerospace, Defense, Other Industries Upskill

Pivot. It’s a word that is very often on all of our minds as we continue to deal with the upheaval that 2020 and 2021 has brought. For instance, WSU had to pivot quite quickly in the fall to stand up some Learn & Work courses and offer them for workers and industries impacted by COVID-19. We learned a lot in that crash course, and now we’re focusing on helping area industries, including military and aerospace, get the training they need.

Henry Kiester, of WSU’s Military Outreach team, recently led the creation of a non-credit prep course for the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam. Having employees with CISSP certification increases security within your organization’s networks and information systems, so it was a good fit for defense industry partners among others. (In fact, a defense industry partner populated the now- full course, which will run in March.)

In a matter of months, that course creation team went from not having a course in existence, to hiring an experienced instructor, creating a curriculum, and registering students to the benefit of those individuals and the industries they work for. That same nimble approach can benefit you too. If you’re in the defense or aerospace industries, contact Jeff Stuart (j4kstuart@weber.edu) or Henry Kiester (henrykiester@weber.edu) to discuss course offerings or a specific training need that you have.

Not in aerospace or defense industries? Contact Beth Rhoades (bethrhoades@weber.edu) to improve your training opportunities in other sectors. Take a step toward a better-trained workforce!
