PACS for ABII

Welcome to the Weber State University School of Radiologic Sciences. We are offering courses through our Division of Online & Continuing Education to help informatics professionals prepare for the Imaging Informatics Professional exam administered through the American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII). The following courses are designed for the working professional and provide the flexibility to be taken from home. The student will get college credit for these courses and they can be applied toward your continuing education through the ARRT or the ABII. These courses are geared toward covering all ten of the Imaging Informatics Professional (IIP) exam content outlined specifications listed by the ABII.

Course Requirements

 

RADT 3563 Managing Clinical Information

3 credit hours

Digital and volumetric imaging, emerging technologies, secure computerized management practice, and patient privacy regulations.

Objectives
At the end of the course, the student will be able to do the following:

  1. Explain the different areas of healthcare informatics.
  2. List the key goals of having an electronic medical record (EMR).
  3. Explain the different configurations in a computer network.
  4. Describe the function of the internet and the internet browser.
  5. Explain the importance of securityand privacy policy using computers.
  6. List and describe different information systems and communication methods in the healthcare setting.
  7. Describe alternative methods of delivering healthcare using new technology.

RADT 4433 PACS Administration

3 credit hours

Digital imaging and communication standards, PACS administration duties, image quality, and emerging technical standards.

Objectives
At the end of the course, the student will be able to do the following:

  1. Explain PACS architecture and how it relates to strategic planning.
  2. Identify and understand workflow related challenges.
  3. Describe the importance of integration and archiving in the PACS environment.
  4. Explain the Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM) standard.
  5. Explain the importance of conformance standards when working with entities outside your organization.
  6. Describe the importance of privacy and security concerns as related to image transfer and storage.
  7. Describe how you would connect different vendor equipment using the DICOM standard.
  8. Explain the acquisition of images, how they are displayed, and various workstation configurations.
  9. List and describe various quality assurance testing procedures.

RADT 4443 Imaging Informatics

3 credit hours

Analyzing system needs, project management and quality improvement procedures, and understanding clinical and medical informatics.

Objectives
At the end of the course, the student will be able to do the following:

  1. Identify and explain procurement and operational standards.
  2. Describe quality improvements procedures.
  3. List and describe key policies and procedures necessary for imaging informatics.
  4. Explain the importance of training and communication in the medical informatics environment.
  5. Identify different learning styles and ways to adapt training to different types of learners.
  6. Explain the importance of different ways of image transmission, display and viewing room design and ergonomics.
  7. Identify system management tools that aid the PACS administrator in determining capacity and throughput of images and contingency plans for disaster recovery and uptime procedures.
  8. Identify and explain discuss medical imaging standards, guidelines, and integration.

Application and Enrollment

 

Step 1: Apply to WSU

  1. If you are not a current WSU student, you will need to apply for admission to Weber State University.
  2. Complete the Independent Study application. Under Step 3., please note you are interested in completing PACS courses for ABII.

Step 2: Register for Courses

To register, please call Continuing Education at 801-626-6600. Inform them you are an Independent Study student and provide them with the course number(s) in which you are enrolling in (i.e. RADT 3563).

Tuition payment is due at the time of registration.
