Studying Film Studies at Weber State
Weber State’s film studies degree prepares film lovers to become successful filmmakers by combining art, technology and theory with commercial practices.
Film Studies Highlights
Weber State takes an interdisciplinary approach to film studies, with classes offered by the Department of Visual Art & Design, Department of Communication, Department of English and Department of Performing Arts.
As a film studies major, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art production and post-production facilities, including industry-standard software, a dedicated sound stage, a greenscreen studio, and high-end cameras and equipment.
WSU graduates work in local and national film and media organizations, and many go on to graduate film schools across the country.
Beyond the Classroom
The Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities has a dedicated internship coordinator committed to helping film studies majors find national and international internships, including opportunities with the Sundance Film Festival, Utah Film Commission and Salt Lake Film Society.

“What I learned in the film studies program at Weber coupled with the people I met, both peers and instructors, could not have prepared me more for my future. Under the guidance of fantastic faculty I have been equipped with a sound knowledge of both theory and a physical practice of filmmaking. The networking possible through the program has also given me the ability to make films outside of school and meet the next enthusiastic generation of Utah’s film industry.”
