Studying Dance at Weber State

Weber State’s dance major prepares you for a career in performance, choreography, dance education, administration or using emerging technologies in the performance field.

Dance Highlights

Weber State’s dance major offers individualized attention and the opportunity to co-produce your own concert. You will learn from faculty with professional dance backgrounds and a variety of styles, as well as from visiting artists from around the country.

Beyond the Classroom

As a Weber State dance major, you will have the chance to travel to dance conferences, festivals and workshops.

Dance students also have the opportunity to learn performance production skills and get hands-on experience working backstage.

Conner Erickson

Class of 2019

“Weber won me over once I realized how much individual attention I received in the dance program. I’ve been given multiple opportunities to perform and choreograph in and outside of school, opening doors that wouldn't have existed before, as well as helping me continue my growth as an artist and in my technical ability.”

What You’ll LEARN at Weber

You will learn how to succeed in the professional world of dance, whether you want to perform or choreograph. You will explore the history, theory and science of dance while enhancing your physical skills and developing connections with the community.

What You CAN DO After Weber

As a graduate of Weber State’s dance program, you can pursue careers in a range of dance-related fields:

  • Education (private teachers, dance therapists, artists in residence)
  • Arts administration (business managers, public relations managers, grant specialists)
  • Dance performance or production (company dancers, choreographers, technicians)

You may also pursue a Master of Fine Arts for a studio-based approach to the art, or Master of Arts for a theory-based approach. If you have questions, contact a WSU Career Advisor.

Faculty Perspective

Name

My favorite part about teaching in the dance program is witnessing the growth of choreographic and performance skills in our students. Their openness in sharing their talents in the studio, on stage and while we tour to regional festivals connects them to other emerging artists in the field.

The dance area is more than a university degree program. We are a community whose mission is to promote and support self-confidence, and the use of the creative voice through the study of the dancing body, engagement in the arts and academic rigor.
