Health & Benefits Exec. Brings Legal, Decision-Making Expertise to MHA Program
Chet Loftis, managing director of PEHP Health Plan, has a mission: Get Weber State students to adopt an executive perspective and successfully put together a winning case. As an attorney and former lobbyist, he knows a thing or two about making cases.
On top of his regular career, Loftis teaches a decision-making class for WSU’s eMHA program, where he shows students how to approach decision making as a lifelong skill and deliberative process.
He also remembers what it’s like to be a professional going to school. Despite having a juris doctorate, he decided to also earn a Master of Public Administration degree 15 years later.
“Going back to school as an adult was a great experience for me because it really inspired me to put my own learning first,” he said. He wants to enable students to own their educational experiences, just as he did.
He has expertise in the policy arena, where he developed a passion for bringing people together. Now that he has brought students together in an online classroom, he is glad to equip a new generation of leaders with solid skills.
“I’ve really enjoyed how much of who they are comes through in their work,” he said.
