New Changes to Adobe Licensing

December 16, 2024

Weber State is updating its Adobe licensing agreement starting January 1, 2025! This change affects all campus members—faculty, staff, and students—and requires action to maintain access to Adobe products.

What's Changing?

Beginning January 1, 2025, all users will need to request a new Adobe license annually. The new licensing structure also includes three distinct options, each designed to meet specific needs across our campus community. When you request your new license, you will be asked to select the option that best suits your needs.

Express Premium License

The Express Premium License is ideal for casual creators or those needing quick and accessible design solutions. This license grants access to Adobe Express' premium template library and advanced video and audio features, making it perfect for creating visually appealing flyers, engaging social media posts, or short promotional videos. For campus members who require high-quality results without the steep learning curve of professional-grade software, Express Premium offers a straightforward and efficient solution.

Acrobat Pro License

The Acrobat Pro License is tailored for those who need Adobe Acrobat Pro only, making it a great option for those with roles focused on document management and collaboration. Acrobat Pro includes tools for viewing, editing, and organizing PDFs, as well as features like e-signature tools, form preparation, and collaborative reviews. This license is particularly valuable for administrative staff, researchers, or anyone frequently handling digital documents in academic or professional settings. However, it does not include access to Adobe Express Premium, keeping the focus squarely on document-centric tasks.

Creative Cloud License

The Creative Cloud License offers the ultimate toolkit for creatives whose work requires the full suite of Adobe applications. This comprehensive license includes the entire Creative Cloud app library, featuring software like InDesign, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator. It also includes access to Acrobat Pro and Express Premium, making it a versatile choice for anyone whose work requires more than one application. Designed for advanced graphic design, video production, and multimedia projects, this license is ideal for those who regularly work on high-level creative tasks. Because this option provides access to the entire Creative Cloud library, it should be selected only by users who require it to perform their roles effectively.

By offering three license options, this approach ensures users have access to the tools they need while also being more cost-effective for the university. Not every role requires the full Creative Cloud License, and allowing users to select the license that best suits them helps allocate resources efficiently, reducing unnecessary expenses.

What Do You Need to Do?

To avoid interruptions in your access to Adobe tools, it's important to request your new license starting January 1, 2025. If you teach and plan for students to use Adobe products, remind them to request their licenses to ensure they’re prepared for the semester.
