Bachelor of Arts in History Teaching

In addition to studying history, you’ll acquire skills to pass on your knowledge to the next generation of learners.

What You’ll Learn

Our courses cover how politics, warfare, theology, literature, environment and family life have changed over time. You’ll gain the ability to do original research, analyze and evaluate sources, write clearly and evaluate social dynamics.

In addition, you’ll learn how to effectively present historical material to a range of students and apply state-of-the-art teaching methods.

 

What You Can Do

As a history teaching graduate, you can become a secondary school history teacher. In addition, you’ll have all of opportunities available to regular history majors, including graduate studies and a wide range of careers. 

Aside from teaching, graduates have gone on to careers in:

  • History
  • Law
  • Government
  • Business
  • Journalism
  • Film
  • Non-profit organizations

Practical Experience

Along with working closely with our faculty, you can learn by working with local history teachers in junior highs and high schools.

We also offer you a chance to study abroad at Tuebingen University in Germany.

 

Degree Requirements

A total of 120 credit hours is required for graduation; a minimum of 36 of these is required within the major. A total of 40 upper division credit hours is required (courses numbered 3000 and above); 24 of these are required within the major. Minimum grade of C in all major courses (a C- is not accepted)

  • A minor is required (Does not have to be in teaching field, Asian Studies minors eligible)
  • History teaching majors must meet Department of Teacher Education admission and licensure requirements.
