Bachelor’s Degrees

Our bachelor’s degree programs provide students with highly-valued skills sought after by employers. Our programs are designed to provide high-quality and personalized teaching while giving students hands-on experience in whatever career area they want to pursue, helping them launch their careers with the skills necessary to excel in the industry.

Civic Advocacy

The civic advocacy degree program includes tracks in environmental advocacy, ethnic studies/ethnic advocacy, legal advocacy, public policy advocacy, religious advocacy and women's advocacy.

This program is designed to teach you how to serve as an advocate in the interest of the public good in roles such as an attorney, legislator, environmental advocate, animal rights advocate, religious leader, homeless advocate, politician, children's advocate, minority and marginalized populations representative, lobbyist and more.

The civic advocacy emphasis allowed me to tailor my education to my career goals. I was able to take political science classes that were extremely useful during my five internships, and now in my career and volunteer work.

Communication Teaching

The communication teaching degree allows students to choose from two tracks, with each option providing students with the skills to effectively teach in the area of communication.

Tracks include communication studies (speech), which is designed for students interested in teaching or coaching communication courses in highschools; and the multimedia journalism track, designed for students interested in teaching or advising school organizations or yearbook staff.

Digital Media

A degree in digital media will teach you about the importance of deadlines, budgets and the impact your actions have on a production team.

As an advanced student, you will gain understanding about the art and power of communicating messages through video, audio and the web. This program offers two tracks: entertainment or digital media production.

My favorite thing was the access to the production studio in the library and editing cave. It gave me hands-on experience in an atmosphere where I was able to create relationships with other people in my major.

Interpersonal & Family Communication

A degree in interpersonal and family communication will help you understand, explain and improve your friendship, marriage, family and other meaningful interpersonal relationships.

Communication is the central framework through which we all function, create and share meaning, sustain identities and negotiate our relationships. This program of study will teach you to understand complex, dynamic relationships.

Multimedia Journalism

A multimedia journalism degree teaches students how to collect and write information regarding current events, trends and issues for publication in a newspaper, magazine or website.

The curriculum emphasizes writing skills, but you will also learn about research, interviewing, editing, layout and design, as well as legal and ethical issues in journalism.

You can specialize in one of the following five tracks: general assignment reporting, literary journalism, technical writing, web publishing or sports journalism.

I was able to apply the lessons I learned in the classroom to real-life journalism assignments working at the student newspaper and internships. By the time I graduated, I had a portfolio full of work to show potential employers.

Organizational Communication

An organizational communication degree focuses on how people use messages to generate meanings within organizations across various contexts, cultures, channels and media through the effective and ethical practice of human communication. Students can select a track in either technical writing or training and development.

The Organizational Communication Emphasis has not only given me valuable, real-world skills to use in future employment, but has opened my eyes to the ways people interact with one another—and how we can do it better. The close and competent aid from the wonderful professors in the Communication Department ensured that I could be successful in my pursuit of knowledge.

Public Relations & Strategic Communication

The public relations and strategic communication degree provides you with the theory and practical skills in writing, critical thinking, marketing, advertising and communicating to influence public opinion across a range of media.

Students can specialize by choosing one of the following tracks: copywriting, healthcare public relations, international public relations, marketing or visual communication.

Social Media & Data Analytics

A degree in social media and data analytics prepares you with an in-depth understanding of social media and how to strategically use it to communicate.

You will gain skills in creating social media content, analyzing social media data and making visualizations to communicate complex data to audiences.

The Social Media & Data Analytics emphasis has been the best decision I have made since starting college. These classes provided me with the skills I need to thrive in the social media realm and I've already secured a job because of my knowledge from the data analytics side of things.
