Major campus construction projects (Stewart Bell Tower Plaza and Hurst Center construction) will result in some changes to pedestrian and vehicular traffic patterns this summer.
At the same time, work continues on Elizabeth Hall.
Check out the Ogden campus map to see exactly what areas of campus are affected by the construction projects.
Here's some information that may help you navigate campus during this busy construction season.
Stewart Bell Tower Plaza Project – Fall 2008
How can I get from lower campus (below the Bell Tower Plaza) to upper campus?
Signs along the perimeter of the construction zone will offer you directional information to reach specific locations. Plan an additional five minutes walking time, on average, to get around the construction zone.
Will disability access still be open?
The ramps between Lampros Hall and Tracy Plaza are still accessible for use.
When will the Bell Tower Plaza construction be completed?
The Bell Tower Plaza redesign is scheduled for completion in December 2008.
What will the new Stewart Bell Tower Plaza look like?
The concrete around the bell tower is being replaced with trees, grass and water features to create a more inviting space for visitors to the center of campus.
Dixon Drive realignment – Fall 2008
Why traffic circles?
The new traffic patterns will move vehicles more efficiently on and off campus. The circles should eliminate the bottleneck that occurs at the intersection of Dixon Drive and 4100 South.
UPDATE: As of July 21, the 3850 South entrance to campus has reopened and the 4100 South entrance to campus has permanently closed. Vehicles accessing the south side of campus may use Taylor Avenue off of 42nd Street.
How will the construction affect UTA bus service along Dixon Drive?
UTA will be advertising on its buses about changes to specific routes. Check with UTA for more information about specific routes.
Can I still park along Harrison Blvd.?
The majority of parking along Harrison Boulevard should remain available, but there will be some limitations as the UDOT crews rework the signal lights and relocate the 4000 South entrance. Check back on this Web site for updates about any scheduled disruptions in parking along Harrison Boulevard.
How will the closure affect pedestrian access?
Pedestrians entering campus will have to do so at 4100 South or Edvalson Street (3700 South).
Will the Information Booth be available?
Services normally provided by the Information Booth will be relocated to a temporary booth located at the mouth of Edvalson Street to service the north side of campus, and at Parking Services (Annex 5) for visitors entering campus on 4100 South. Way-finding signs at both entrances will direct people to these temporary resources.
Will Dixon Drive be open for the start of school in the fall?
The project is scheduled to be completed by late August.
Hurst Center for Lifelong Learning – Fall 2008
May 5, 2008, construction began on the Hurst Center for Lifelong Learning. The building will be located between the Lindquist Alumni Center and Promontory Tower (PT).
Will there be events in the alumni center during construction?
Campus groups are welcome to use the Alumni Center during construction. However, event parking will only be available in the evenings. Anyone meeting during the day will need to either walk to the Alumni Center or take the shuttle bus.
How will guests and employees enter the alumni center during construction?
The front entrance to the Alumni Center —the horseshoe-shaped entrance in front of the building will remain open. The entrance through the garden area on the south of the building also will provide access to the building. A wheel-chair accessible section will be added to the pathway linking the garden to the Burger King/WSU Credit Union parking lots.
How will guests and employees enter Promontory Tower during construction?
Pedestrians can enter PT on both the east and west sides. The east entrance will not be affected by the construction. To access the west entrance, pedestrians must take the stairs from the sidewalk running parallel to 4100 South.
Where will guests and employees of the alumni center and PT park during construction?
Both the north and south sides of 4100 South will be available for parallel parking. Other parking options for staff who work in PT and the Alumni Center include all but the east row of the R2 lot, east of PT, the W7 lot north of the practice field or the W8 lot south of the Browning Center.
Elizabeth Hall construction – Fall 2008
Elizabeth Hall is scheduled to open January 2009.
We appreciate your patience and understanding with all the construction on campus this summer. Once completed, these projects will result in some marvelous new resources and amenities for campus.
