The Silent Witness Campaign features free-standing, life-sized red wooden figures, each one bearing the name of a woman who once lived, worked, had neighbors, friends, family or children whose life ended violently at the hands of a husband, ex-husband, partner or acquaintance.
The White Ribbon Campaign encourages the wearing of a white ribbon as a personal pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. Wearing a white ribbon is a way of saying, “Our future has no violence against women.”
Weekly workshops with guest speakers, display tables with preventative information and phone cards with campus and community resources are all a part of the month-long events. Close collaboration with Your Community Connection, a battered women’s shelter, is a regular part of the programs which includes a candlelight vigil. A fund raiser for Your Community Connection was initiated by having a battle of the bands. More than $600 was raised and donated to assist a women impacted by domestic violence.
Purpose: Students will learn how to stay safe, access campus and community resources in the event of abuse and learn how to identify the signs of an abusive relationship.
