POLICY:

A. News Releases

All publicity releases must be cleared through the director of information services. This prevents possible error and duplication of effort. All statements developed by personnel of the university which include references to curriculum also must be reviewed by the vice president for academic affairs prior to printing, duplication, or release for public information. It is the responsibility of the director of public relations to submit such references to the vice president for academic affairs.

B. Photographs

For publicity purposes: Make request of the director of public relations for photographic coverage the same as for news coverage. 

C. Radio or Television Programs
1. Radio or Television Coverage of Weber State University Events:
The vice president for business affairs makes the contract arrangements for all sponsored radio and/or television coverage of special events held under auspices of Weber State University, including athletic events. Each such contract shall include the following provisions: 
a. All events shall be broadcast or televised direct from their sites.
b. The director of public relations shall review and approve all sponsors of broadcasts and telecasts. Beer, liquor, or wine companies or distributors, firms, and individuals who make the sale of beer, liquor, or wine their primary business shall not be acceptable as advertisers on broadcasts, any related pre- and post-broadcasts, and other immediately adjacent time spots.
c. The director of public relations shall review and approve all announced personnel covering assignments in connection with sponsored sports broadcasts.
2. Sustaining Programs:
The director of public relations shall make arrangements for all sustaining program coverage of special events whether they are under auspices of the university or of the WSUSA. He or she shall review and approve all announcing personnel covering assignments in connection with sustaining sports broadcasts.
3. Broadcasts of Sponsored Special Events:
The vice president for business affairs makes the contract arrangements for all sponsored radio and/or television coverage of special events held under auspices of the university. Each such contract shall provide that the vice president of public relations will review and approve all sponsors.
4. Exclusive Broadcast Rights:
Exclusive broadcast and telecast rights shall be granted only when WSUSA or the university receives monetary remuneration.

5. Broadcast Liability:

The radio or television station involved shall assume all liability and costs incurred in connection with sustaining and/or sponsored programs.

6. Spot Announcements:

Individuals or organizations desiring to obtain sport announcements and/or news coverage on radio and/or television in connection with university events shall make arrangements for the same through the vice president of public relations and are not to contact the stations in these matters prior to consulting with the vice president for university relations.
