Technical Information


Oral Presentations

  • Plan for a 15-minute oral presentation with  5 additional minutes for questions. This schedule will be strictly enforced.
  • Oral presentations are held in technology classrooms, which contain: 
  • a Windows laptop computer with:
    • Windows 7
    • Microsoft Office 2010:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader
    • QuickTime
    • Windows Media Player.
  • a multimedia LCD projector and a large screen
  • a DVD player that projects onto the screen.

  • Presenters must use the Windows laptop computer provided.
  • Presenters must bring any digital presentations materials on a USB flash drive and/or a CD/DVD.
    • No other documents should be on the flash drive and/or CD/DVD.
    • We strongly recommend that presenters bring a backup of their digital presentation materials on a second USB flash drive or CD/DVD in case their primary digital memory device does not work.
  • The recommended format for presentations is Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 (.pptx), although files saved in older versions of PowerPoint should be compatible.
  • There will be a testing room located in each building for presenters to test their files on a comparable computer. 
  •  If there are any technical difficulties during the presentation, please inform the moderator, who will contact the technical support team.
  • Presenters should arrive at their classroom prior to the start of each session to ensure that their USB flash drive and/or CD/DVD opens properly on the Windows laptop computer provided.
    • Practice Rooms

      There will be rooms available for presenters to practice their presentations prior to their session. Please consult the NCUR 2012 Program for practice room locations.


      Posters

       

      1. Poster presentations are displays on poster boards.

        1. They must be prepared in advance.

        2. They may not include exhibits of models, devices, or computer programs.
           

      2. Each presenter is provided with one side of a freestanding display board.
         

      3. Posters

        1. Posters should be 36 inches high x 44 inches wide to fit on the display board.

        2. Posters must be readable from at least three feet away.

        3. The presentation title must be at least two inches high.

        4. Beneath the title, the name(s) of the student author(s), faculty sponsor, and school or institution must be at least one inch high.
           

      4. Presenters must provide Velcro to attach materials to the display board, plus any other supplies. Pushpins cannot be used.
         


      Performing Arts

      • Presenters should arrive at least 10 minutes prior to their presentation.
      • The performance space will include a piano.
      • Technical support will include audio playback and general stage lighting.

       


      Visual Arts
       
      •  Two-dimensional work must be framed and ready to hang with picture wire or cleats.
      •  Artwork mounted with only sheet glass/Plexiglas and mirror hooks will not be accepted.
      •  Velcro or double-sided tape cannot be used on the gallery walls.

      •  Three-dimensional work must be stable and secure.

      All work must be clean and free of dirt and pests.
