About the Celebración de Mariposas
The Celebración de Mariposas is a cultural celebration that honors the achievements of graduating students. It is open to everyone. The cultural celebration also honors families, friends and those who have supported them through their academic journey. The graduate celebration was created by students for students to bring awareness to their own stories.
The Celebración de Mariposas is not an alternative or replacement of WSU’s commencement. It is an empowering cultural celebration including English and Spanish speakers along with performances representing cultural roots from the Americas. Weber State University has a strong Hispanic and Latino community with many of our graduates growing up in the surrounding neighborhoods. This event seeks to continue inspiring future generations of youth that students from varied ethnic backgrounds do succeed in college. The celebration was brought to Ogden by the Weber State University’s MEChA chapter, in hopes of continuing the push of the Hispanic and Latino community in higher education.
All Are Welcome
The Celebración de Mariposas is open to all students to celebrate and enjoy the traditions of the Hispanic and Latino community. Students who may be particularly interested in participating are, but not limited to, students of Hispanic and Latino cultural backgrounds and/or involved in community activities that strengthen the Hispanic and Latino community.
Participants must:
- Undergraduate and graduate participants must have formally applied for graduation through Weber State University and be eligible to participate in Commencement.
- Participants must be graduating from the university corresponding one of the following terms: Fall 2023, Spring 2024, Summer 2024.
- Participants must be present at mandatory Celebración de Mariposas rehearsal: April 19, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Shepherd Union, Room 320.
