Unconventional Resources Special Interest Group of the SPWLA: The Unconventional Resources Special Interest Group (UR SIG) was established in 2010 as an organization within the SPWLA dedicated to providing a forum for professionals, students, and researchers whose focus is the exploration, development, and production of unconventional resources. As part of this effort the UR SIG wishes to provide student scholarships (in the amount of $2,000) to both encourage and support projects related to reservoir characterization of petroleum systems with an emphasis on unconventional resources. Friends of Great Salt Lake: (FoGSL) is seeking applicants for the 2014 Doyle Stephens Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship provides support to undergraduate or graduate students engaged in new or ongoing research that focuses on Great Salt Lake and/or the lake ecosystem or watershed. We will consider research projects from any academic field (for instance: ecology, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, geology, urban planning, social sciences, communications, education, economics, tourism, engineering, etc.). The scholarship may also be used to support research internships. Application information is attached; the deadline to apply is March 14, 2014. American Institute of Professional Geologists Scholarship Program: Scholarship are given to assist students with college education costs and to promote student participation in the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). UGIC Scholarship Announcement: After a very successful inaugural Utah Geographic Information Council (UGIC) converence and scholarship program in 2013, the UGIC board will again be offereing undergraduate student scholarships to this year's upcoming conference in Richfield May 7-9th. Two scholarships will be awarded that cover conference registration and lodging. Any undergraduate (full or part-time) student is elible to apply. The submission deadline is February 28, 2014.
