The Case for Science
By any measure you choose, the science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM workforce pipeline in Utah and the Nation is woefully inadequate. There are not enough technically and scientifically skilled employees entering the job market to fill existing and future STEM jobs. Even in this time of high unemployment, Utah has 7,000 unfilled STEM positions because the lack of qualified applicants. When major industry and defense employers cannot find enough STEM professionals to meet their workforce needs, it hurts our economy and national defense and we have a crisis.
Weber State University’s College of Science is addressing this shortfall by strengthening our ability to prepare the future science and mathematics workforce and educators. We actively advance STEM education through outreach and recruitment efforts to university and K-12 students, their parents and teachers. We are building opportunity for the future and we will get there, thanks to your vision, your commitment and your help.
