What does a Chemical Laboratory Technician do?

Chemical laboratory technicians play a key role in helping to provide products and services through chemical technology. As a chemical laboratory technician, you might:

  • Team with scientists in the laboratory to study and develop new chemical processes and materials to meet society’s changing needs.
  • Contribute to design of experiments.
  • Measure properties of materials used and produced in chemical reactions
  • Record and report experimental results
  • Write technical reports
  • Assure that processes are carried out safely, cost-effectively, and according to the highest professional standards.

What will I learn?

In the Weber State University chemical laboratory technician program, you’ll learn to:

  • Operate laboratory equipment
  • Conduct sophisticated experiments
  • Set up apparatuses for chemical reactions
  • Handle materials
  • Prepare compounds
  • Collect samples
  • Conduct analyses that evaluate product quality and consistency

You’ll be prepared to work in research and development laboratories and/or analytical laboratories. Both types of laboratories contain complex and sophisticated instrumentations that you’ll know how to use and maintain.
