What degrees are available?

There are seven Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Automotive Service Technology degree options and one certificate program option to help you become a professional automobile service technician:  

NEW for 2008! There are three Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Automotive Technology options to help you prepare for other careers in the automotive industry. 

What are the employment opportunities?

Associate's degree graduates are qualified for a variety of entry-level service technician positions in dealerships, independent garages and other automotive service suppliers.

Bachelor's degree graduates are qualified for positions involving customer service, field engineering, field service testing, and technical instruction. Graduates work for companies such as Ford, General Motors, Honda, Chrysler, Toyota, MHC Kenworth, Manheim Corporation, and Sterling Collision Centers, as well as independent shops, Insurance companies, schools, and automotive aftermarket supply companies.

Starting Salaries
Starting salaries vary depending on the region, workplace and skill level.  Associate's degree graduates can expect starting salaries ranging from $25,000-$35,000 per year, while Bachelor degree graduates typically start at $40,000 or more per year.  For more information, go to

Is there an application deadline?

No, however, we encourage you to apply online  early.  Financial aid and scholarship applications do have deadlines.  See the financial aid and scholarship websites for more information.

The curriculum for each of our seven programs requires that specific classes be taken each semester.  Program schedules are now available for download.

Approximate Expenses 2008-2009

Out-of-state (Non-Resident) students now receive special discounted flat rate tuition, which is substantially lower than standard non-resident tuition.  Students can obtain Utah residency status after living in Utah for one year.  To receive the Discount, you must declare your major as "Automotive Service Technology" or "Automotive Technology".

Automotive Department News 

August 25, 2008 - We are pleased to welcome new faculty member Will Speigle.  Will comes to us from Allen Park Michigan where he worked for TAC Automotive as a Ford Service Engineer, and General Physics as a Ford Training Specialist.  Will is the Program Coordinator and Lead Instructor for our Independent Shop / Ford MLR programs.

What will I learn in the program?

In the Associate of Applied Science program , you will prepare for a career as a automobile service technician by learning how a vehicle operates, how to diagnose problems with vehicles, and how to correct the problems you have diagnosed.  You will do this using the latest diagnostic tools, vehicles, and service information available directly from the different vehicle manufacturers we are partnered with.

The Bachelor of Science degree program builds on the AAS degree program by preparing graduates for employment in a wide variety of automotive industries including service operations, fleet management, and technical support activities.  As a graduate of this program, you will have developed technical competence and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, solve problems, and work in teams.
