This is a Blended Learning Course. Once students register for the course, they will receive instructions about how to access online content. 
*Class needs a minimum of 5 participants

The Water Safety Instructor course teaches candidates how to teach courses and presentations in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program. This includes Parent and Child Aquatics, Pre-School Aquatics, Learn to Swim, Adult Swim, and various water safety presentations.

Pre-Requisites

  • Candidates must be 16 years old before the last date of the class.
  • Must pass a pre-course evaluation with the following elements:
    1. Swim the following strokes at a Level 4 proficiency:
      • 25 yards Freestyle
      • 25 yards Backstroke
      • 25 yards Breaststroke
      • 25 yards Elementary Backstroke
      • 25 yards Sidestroke
      • 15 yards Butterfly
    2. Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling).
    3. Tread water for 1 minute.
    4. Attendance is required at all sessions in order to pass the course.

Cost

  • $160 for WSU students/faculty/staff
  • $170 for community members
