Musical of Musicals Lives Again! Weber State University’s production of “The Musical of Musicals: The Musical,” directed by Jim Christian, has been selected for the American College Theatre Festival (ACTF) Region VIII Competition. WSU’s Department of Performing Arts will present encore performances of “The Musical of Musicals: The Musical,” directed by Jim Christian, Jan. 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts Allred Theater.
The “play,” consisting of five musical theater parodies on a single theme, is the work of Eric Rockwell (music, book) and Joanne Bogart (lyrics, book). The show is full of one-liners, puns and other jokes that are specifically based on the styles of five influential musical theater creators: Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Kander and Ebb. Rockwell skillfully manages to capture the distinctive sounds of the five composers, drawing on familiar melodies without ever directly copying their scores. The show enjoyed a seven-night run at WSU during fall semester 2007. Tickets are available through the Dee Events Center ticket office at 1-800-WSU-TIKS. For more information about this production, contact Jim Christian, 801-626-6992 or jchristian@weber.edu.
