Weber State University Launches National Recreation Contest with Camping World

OGDEN, Utah – The Hall Global Entrepreneurship Center at Weber State University will host its first Outdoor Weber contest sponsored by Camping World® this spring. Students from around the country are invited to present their ideas for outdoor recreation products or services. Finalists will compete at the Snowbasin, Wolf Creek and Powder Mountain resorts in the Ogden Valley of Northern Utah from March 22-24, 2018. The winner will receive $30,000 to develop their business concept.

Chair of Camping World Holdings® and star of CNBC’s “The Profit,” Marcus Lemonis, will be the keynote speaker during the awards banquet, March 23 at 5 p.m.

“I am personally and proudly invested in more than 150 U.S. businesses,” Lemonis said. “Our business mantra for success has always been ‘people-process-product,’ but without a doubt, people are the most important part of a businesses' success, which is why I am looking for the brightest, hardest working and most entrepreneurial-minded students,”

The three-day contest and celebration is open to all U.S. college students.

Beginning Jan. 5, students can submit videos outlining their proposals to outdoorweber.com. The 25 semifinalists will be determined by the greatest number of online votes each video submission receives between Jan. 26 and Feb. 15. A panel of industry experts will select 10 finalists who will be invited to Utah to refine their concepts with assistance from some of the world’s most-recognized outdoor recreation-based companies.

This is one of a number of contests and events sponsored annually by the Hall Global Entrepreneurship Center. Established in 2013 with a gift from entrepreneur and alumnus Alan E. Hall, the center offers a wide-range of opportunities to motivate, inspire and provide unique resources to help students achieve their dream of starting a business.

The competition is a partnership with Camping World Holdings, Inc., a leading outdoor and camping retailer, headquartered in Lincolnshire, Illinois.

“This first-of-its-kind competition gives college students across the country the opportunity to advance their outdoor recreation idea,” said Brandon Stoddard, Hall Global Entrepreneurship Center director. “Those who take advantage of this opportunity will be better prepared to make their dream happen.”
