WSU Selects New Athletic Director

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University announced Tim Crompton as the new Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, a role he has filled as interim since May 2019.

Tim is a perfect fit for Weber State,” said Norm Tarbox, vice president for Administrative Services, who oversees the WSU Athletics Department. “He knows the community and the campus. He knows good coaching. He's committed to help our student-athletes reach their potential on the field and in the classroom. And he bleeds purple.”

Prior to his selection, Crompton coached WSU women’s soccer for 15 years.

As both a coach and athletic director, Crompton said he is most proud of the quality of individuals Weber State educates.

“I’m honored for the opportunity to work with the wonderful student-athletes at Weber State,” Crompton said. “Our student-athletes graduate with a sense of pride and accomplishment having done something they may not have thought possible when they arrived as freshmen. With tremendous support from faculty, coaches, staff and administration, students are given the opportunity to earn an education that opens up countless options for their future.”

Crompton said he looks forward to continue supporting student-athletes’ success in the classroom and in competition. He wants to build on successes such as the 2018-19 Big Sky Conference Presidents’ Cup, which is awarded annually for a combination of academic progress, grade point average, team standings in the regular season, and championship play. Weber State holds five Big Sky Presidents' Cup titles — the most in league history.

Crompton says Weber State student-athletes bring a great deal of honor and recognition to the community.

During fall semester 2019, Weber State sophomore Christian Allen earned All-American honors in cross-country with a 14th place finish at the NCAA Championships, the highest in school history.

The volleyball team advanced to the Big Sky Tournament finals and qualified for the NIVC postseason tournament.

Football won its third-straight Big Sky title and advanced to the FCS playoffs for the fourth-straight season.

During his coaching career, Crompton was voted the Big Sky Coach of the Year three times (2004, 2005, 2018). His teams won regular-season titles three times (2004, 2008, 2018), and Big Sky Conference Tournament championships three times (2004, 2005, 2013).

Crompton earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Weber State. He and his wife, Dani, are the parents to two children, Chansi and Rheese Crompton.
