122nd Commencement Ceremony Set for Friday

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University officials are expecting more than 1,100 candidates for graduation this December.  WSU will award degrees and institutional certificates Dec. 12 during its 122nd commencement ceremony at the Dee Events Center. The program will begin at 1 p.m.

Unlike the university's spring commencement, when individual convocations are held separately from the main program, WSU's business school and six academic colleges will confer all degrees and certificates during this one inclusive ceremony.

"Putting Students Through," a program honoring parents, spouses and friends of graduates, will precede the ceremony at 9 a.m. in the Shepherd Union Ballroom B.

WSU began holding winter commencement in 1996 because of the closure of the Val A. Browning Center for major renovations.  In 1999, the university's Board of Trustees decided to make the semi-annual ceremony a permanent event.

Gary Crittenden, Chief Financial Officer for American Express, will deliver the keynote commencement address and will be awarded an honorary degree. The student graduate speaker will be Cristina Alvear.

The program will be rebroadcast on KULC (Channel 9) Dec. 19 from 7-9 p.m.

ASL services will be available in seating section S at the base of portal 17.
