OGDEN, Utah – Warm up your vocal chords and polish that resumé: Utah Musical Theatre has begun its search for performers and crew members for the 2006 season.

The company’s 26th season will feature productions of “Two by Two,” “Dames at Sea” and “Songs for a New World.” In preparation for these shows, UMT has announced a schedule for auditions and is currently accepting submissions for all staff positions, including directors, choreographers, designers, technicians and administrative personnel.

The first set of local auditions will be held Dec. 9-10 in the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts, Room 38, on the Weber State University Ogden campus. Friday, Dec. 9, will be an open call for nonunion performers, who can reserve a five-minute slot between 7-11 p.m. by contacting the UMT office (801-626-7775) after November 28. Otherwise, audition slots will be first come, first served.

Equity Principal Auditions will be held in the same location, noon-7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10. Appointments and walk-ups will be taken, and non-union performers may be seen on an “as available” basis.

Performers should prepare a contemporary comic monologue (1-2 minutes) that demonstrates movement/physicality. They should also bring two song cuttings (prepare 32 bars each, expect to perform 16 bars) of contrasting tone in styles consistent with the season’s productions. An accompanist will be provided. Dance callbacks will consist of advanced tap and jazz; UMT also is interested in acrobatics, tumbling and stunting.

Performers can be contracted per show or for the full season. Production staff will be hired for the full season (up to 14 weeks). UMT hires both union/guild members and non-union performers/artisans/technicians. Contracting for AEA will be on SPT (cat 7, 10 weeks) and Guest Artist (tier 1, 4 weeks) agreements. Contracting for SSD&C and USA will be on special agreement. Nonunion performer contracting will be as a principal, featured or ensemble/apprentice. All positions carry either a salary or nominal stipend.
