‘Arrested Development’s’ Jeffrey Tambor to Motivate WSU Audience

OGDEN, Utah — Film, television and Broadway stage actor Jeffrey Tambor will share his talents and life experiences when he speaks on Oct. 28 at noon in the Weber State University Shepherd Union Ballrooms. The event is free and open to the public.

Tambor is best known for his roles in the popular programs Arrested Development and The Larry Sanders Show. He has also appeared in films such as The Hangover and Meet Joe Black. Tambor has received numerous honors for his professional work, including six Emmy nominations and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Tara Peris-Caputo, WSU’s assistant director of Student Involvement and Leadership, said student leaders, responsible for coordinating the WSUSA Convocations Series, thought students could relate to Tambor.

“In light of the popularity of Mr. Tambor and his shows Arrested Development and all of The Hangover series, students felt like he would be a face and name others would recognize and be interested in hearing,” she said.

Tambor speaks from the heart and willingly shares his love for life and the lessons he has learned along the way. He wants to inspire audiences to embrace human connectivity.

“From what we have been told, Mr. Tambor's speech is very motivational,” Peris-Caputo said. “Other universities and institutions have reached out to us since we scheduled his visit and told us that he changes people's lives with his message of happiness, life and humor. If there is anything that has been constantly reiterated to me, it is how powerful his message of positivity and living a happy life really is.”

Tambor seeks to use humor and to make presentations interactive and relatable. Using experiences from his decades of performances, he shares his family struggles and lessons learned.

“Our student leaders, who are part of the Activities Board, were interested in bringing someone to campus who can energize students and motivate them to be the best they can be every day,” Peris-Caputo said. “They were interested in hearing a positive voice who would be able to make students laugh. In a time where life can be so busy, our students hope he will show everyone there is always a bright light at the end of the tunnel.”

Tambor received a bachelor’s degree in drama from San Francisco State University and a master’s degree from Wayne State University, where he has also taught courses. He has educated actors, corporations, animators from DreamWorks and many others. He uses life lessons not available in textbooks and advises students to face their fears.
