Lecture Offers Historical Perspective on "Prostitution and Polygamy"
The Weber Historical Society, in cooperation with the Utah Humanities Council, presents a lecture by Dr. Jeffery Nichols on "Prostitution and Polygamy" at 7:30 p.m. Monday (Sept. 22) in the Shepherd Union Lair on the Weber State University campus.

This presentation is free to the public.

During the 19th century, both Mormons and "gentiles" used prostitution as a rhetorical weapon in the long controversy over polygamy.  Nichols, a resident of Morgan and assistant professor of history at Westminster College, has spent several years investigating this topic, including a study of the "Stockade" red-light district in Salt Lake City.

Nichols' presentation is also expected to discuss the role prostitution played in Ogden's colorful history.
