Campus Hosting Block Party to Celebrate Start of School
Aug 23, 2005
OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State University Student Association will host a Wildcat Block Party on Sept. 2 to welcome students back to campus and celebrate the start of the football season.

The gathering, scheduled from noon through 10 p.m., will feature entertainment, performances, music, food and contests for audiences of all ages. At 6 p.m., coach Ron McBride and the 2005 Wildcat football team will take part in a parade through campus, culminating with the unveiling of new football uniforms.

The Wilderness Recreation Center plans to have a climbing wall available and will offer opportunities to canoe on the duck pond. Inflatable slides will also be on site for the youngsters.

Greg Simpson will perform 'Acoustic Soul' at 7:30 p.m. on a stage set up in the A1 parking lot at the west end of Moench Mall.

"We want to create an event that appeals to students and community members of all ages," said Zach Warner, WSU Student Association vice president of events. "There's a lot of excitement up here at Weber State and we want everyone to be part of that enthusiasm."

The afternoon and evening of festivities will culminate "Welcome Week," – the first week of classes during fall semester. Event organizers say they hope the Wildcat Block Party will become an annual tradition at WSU.

Businesses or agencies interested in having a booth or presence at the block party should contact Chad Mosher at (801) 626-8539.
