The award includes a $350 scholarship for McRae to use to further her studies in clinical laboratory sciences. McRae, a single mother, says that the award will assist her with her final year of undergraduate work.
After graduation, she plans on finding a job as a clinical lab technician or scientist and pursuing a master's degree in education to fulfill her long-term goal of being a teacher.
The Udall Scholar is a national award given to students with leadership potential and academic achievement, who are committed to careers in the environment, health care or Native American tribal public policy.
