WSU Professor Wins Technology Award in United Arab Emirates

Weber State University professor and library supervisor Carol Hansen, currently on leave from WSU at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates, was declared one of 16 winners in the United Arab Emirates Educational I.T. Challenge 2006.

Secondary schools, colleges and universities from the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait participated in the competition with more than 740 projects entered. Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, presented the “Best College and University Teacher Project” award to Hansen, team leader, for Zayed University's Infoasis e-course.

Infoasis is an open access information literacy e-course developed by a team of librarians and educational technologists. The program provides online and interactive modules supporting information literacy instruction for female university students, most of whom study English as a second language.

Hansen will return to WSU in fall 2006.
