Mize Elected President of National Organization
May 9, 2007

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University physical education professor Monica Mize recently was named president-elect for the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), an organization dedicated to promoting creative and healthy lifestyles.

For the next three years Mize will be a national spokeswoman for AAHPERD, advocating quality, well-balanced physical education programs in the nation’s schools. She will serve one year each as president-elect, president and past president.

Mize has been involved with AAHPERD since 1986 and has served as president of Arizona, Utah and the Southwest District. She also has received numerous awards from the organization, including the AAHPERD Honor Award in 2002 and the AAHPERD Presidential Citation Award in 2006.

In 1994, Mize came to WSU to teach in the Department of Health Promotion and Human Performance. She previously taught at the University of Arizona, Grambling State University, Rio Grande College and Oakland City College.
