Participation in Utah’s Caucus to be Discussed at WSU

OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University’s Olene S. Walker Institute of Politics & Public Service will host a caucus participation training night in the Hurst Center Dumke Legacy Hall, Feb. 17 from 7-8:30 p.m.

Presenters will include Rep. Rob Bishop, Davis County Democratic Party Chair Stroh DeCaire, Utah Democratic Party Political Director TJ Ellerbeck and Ryan Wilcox, the Northern Utah director for the office of Senator Mike Lee.

The training will cover how to participate in Utah’s caucus system, how to become a delegate at the county and state conventions and how to influence other delegates.

“Utah’s political parties are expecting big turnouts at their caucuses in March,” said Carol McNamara, Walker Institute director. “Utah is still a caucus state, even with the Count My Vote legislation. The goal of the Walker Institute caucus training session is to provide an opportunity for members of both parties to learn how to participate in their respective caucuses and to help choose their parties’ candidates.”

The Walker Political Leadership Institute is part of the Walker Institute’s ongoing efforts to support democratic engagement in Utah.
