Diagnostic Medical Sonography

This program is offered with three emphases: Medical, Cardiac and Vascular. The program and support courses are four semesters in length for the medical and cardiac emphases and three semesters for the vascular emphasis, which requires the student to attend summer semester.

A competency-based evaluation system is utilized throughout the program. You must achieve a predetermined level of competency in the academic and clinical courses in order to receive grades for the course. The clinical education courses require a minimum of 24 clock hours per calendar week in a WSU-affiliated health care facility. To begin this program, you must be an ARRT registered technologist or acceptable equivalent as determined by the Department of Radiologic Sciences. After you apply and are accepted, you must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 in all of your professional courses in order to receive certification.

To obtain a BS degree, you must complete the WSU general education requirements, a major and a minor emphasis, a quality assurance course and RADTEC 4943 Baccalaureate Thesis or equivalent.

Your credit hour requirements will vary according to your emphasis. Consult your faculty advisor to complete an academic contract.
