Why Choose the MA in English at WSU?

The Master of Arts in English (MENG) Program at Weber State University emphasizes high-quality academics, accessibility, and affordability.

We have outstanding professors who have won multiple awards for teaching, scholarship, and service. Our faculty members are professionally active—collectively, we’ve published over 20 books and dozens of articles, with more on the way!

The program offers traditional graduate students and working adults advanced preparation in the study of literature, language, creative writing, and English education. Classes are offered in the evening and in the summer to fit your busy schedule.

We’re the most affordable Master’s of English program in Utah. Our outstanding faculty, small class sizes, flexible scheduling, and reasonable tuition provide an exceptional graduate education. We look forward to working with you!

ACCREDITATION MATTERS

Weber State University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).  NWCCU-accredited schools must meet established, challenging, and peer-reviewed standards of quality.  Institutions that hold NWCCU Accreditation have proven their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through the rigorous and comprehensive review process.

OUR PROGRAM, YOUR LIFE

Designed for the working professional, the program is taught in a flexible format designed to enable students to tailor the timing and pace of their degree program to their busy schedules.  Most classes follow a 16-week format, meeting one weeknight per week (5:30-8:30 p.m.).  MENG courses are offered during fall, spring, and summer semesters.  Students may take up to nine credit hours per semester, or stop out of the program for a semester when their lives or careers need to come first.  Since our entering students are not placed in an inflexible cohort, they may take courses in the order that best suits their own schedules, rather than conforming to ours.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE, FLEXIBLE CURRICULUM = ACCESSIBILITY

Our classes are scheduled within the full-length undergraduate semester calendar, so registration and tuition deadlines, holidays and breaks are the same. One course from each of the Core Requirements and two Seminars in Literature are taught each semester.  Elective courses are also taught each semester.  The course schedule is kept as stable as possible from year to year. Please see the Current Schedule and Upcoming Courses page for tentative course schedules.

AFFORDABILITY

The Master of Arts in English degree is a highly sought after graduate degree.  Prohibitive tuition charges can prove to be an effective barrier to the degree for anyone.  We believe that unaffordable tuition should never create an obstacle to educational opportunity.  Compare our tuition here.
