What Did We Do Spring 2009?
Honors Issues Forum - The face of Europe has changed dramatically over the pas 20 years. The Honors Issues Forum presented a panel discussion in late January. Panelists were WSU professors who came from a number of different European nations. Panelists included Erica Daines (Germany), Dr. Dan Bedford (Great Britain), Dr. Marjukka Ollilainen (Finland), Dr. Marek Mayjasik (Poland) and Dr. Doris Geide-Stevenson (Germany). What decisions did the Utah legislature make and why? Some of these questions were answered at an Issues Forum held in April. Various representatives from both the republican and democratic side voiced their views. Food for Thought - During February, Dr. Michael Olpin talked to Honors students about how to handle stress. It was a timely subject as students were all getting ready for upcoming mid-term exams. Students also enjoyed pizza. Dr. Gene Bozniak of the Botany Department spoke in the Honors Center during the month of April about appreciating our environment. Students enjoyed a great lunch from Snider's Sandwich Shop. Partnership with Service - Honors students spent several Saturdays helping out with Habitat for Humanity. Social/Cultural - A scavenger hunt with cameras turned into a fun and competitive event for Honors students during spring semester. It was a great time for students to just "chill" and make new friends.
