HPHP Student Spotlight

Mitchell McKay is majoring in Athletic Training

What is your home town, and what is something interesting about it?

My home town is Pleasant View Utah.  Pleasant view used to be a stop for Native Americans as they traveled through the area.  We used to find all kinds of Native American artifacts as we tilled our garden.

Why did you choose to come to Weber State?

I was living close already and I heard they had a top notch Athletic Training program.  It turns out the program is really great and the other students make it a lot of fun as well.

Tell us your biggest accomplishment or favorite memory (or both) from your time at Weber State.

My biggest accomplishment so far is keeping my grades up above a 3.9.  My favorite memory has to be having athletes try to get me to stay with their team year round instead of for just a 3-4 month time frame. It makes you feel awesome when the athletes you treat appreciate your work with them.

What are your plans after graduation?

Hopefully I will be able to get a job right off the bat and work for a couple of years and then move on to a Master’s program somewhere on the west coast.

How do you like to spend your leisure time?

Any time I get some down time I’m either doing something active or watching a new movie that has come out.  I love to try new sports or activities to broaden my knowledge of love of the outdoors.

Tell us about your activities outside of school (community service, hobbies, etc.)

I love doing service at the high school level because you get to help athletes that are playing sports for the love of the game.  A lot of my service revolves around sporting activities due to myself being a sports junky at heart.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that we don’t know.

I almost drowned when I was kid and ever since I haven’t been a big fan of swimming activities.  Also I almost lost a finger at a young age due to our families pet snapping turtle.
