Federal grantsFederal Pell Grant: This is a grant and does not have to be repaid. Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or a professional degree. The amount you receive depends on program funding. The actual amount you receive will depend on your financial need, your cost to attend WSU, your status as a full-time or part-time student and your plans to attend school for a full academic year or less. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) This is a grant for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. The award priority goes to Pell Grant recipients with the lowest expected family contribution. Like Pell Grants, it does not have to be paid back. You can get between $400 and $1,000 a year, depending on when you apply, your financial need, and the funding level at WSU. This grant is awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or a professional degree. ACG and Smart GrantsThe Department of Education has introduced two new grant programs effective as of July 1, 2006. Click here to see if you might qualify. State GrantsLeveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP) This is a state grant program that does not have to be repaid. It is awarded to undergraduate students from Utah who have not earned a bachelor’s or a professional degree and have demonstrated substantial financial need. You can get between $400 and $1,000 a year, depending on your financial need. Utah Centennial Opportunity Program for Education (UCOPE) This is also a state program that does not have to be repaid. It is awarded to undergraduate students from Utah who have not earned a bachelor’s or a professional degree. The award may be in the form of grants or student employment. The amount you receive depends on state funding for the program. A typical UCOPE award ranges from $400 to $1,000 a year, depending on your financial need, and the funding level at WSU. UHEAA Grant Program (UHEAG) This is another state program that does not have to be repaid. It is awarded to undergraduate students from Utah who have not earned a bachelor's or a professional degree. The amount awarded depends on the state funding for the program. A typical UHEAG award ranges from $300 to $1,000 a year depending on your financial need, and the funding level at WSU. |
