Personal Biography

Position: Associate Professor, Computer Science and Academic Advisor for Computer Science.

Degree: 2011 – PhD in Business Administration, with a Computer Science minor from NorthCentral University, Prescott, AZ.; 2000 - M.A. in Teaching with a Computer Information Systems minor from Troy State University, Troy AL.;  1998 - B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Park University, Parkville MO.;  1996 - A.A.S. in Paralegal Studies from the Community College of the Air Force, Montgomery AL.;  1994 - A.A.S. in Medical Services from the Community College of the Air Force, Montgomery AL.

Current Field of Study: My current research interest deals with designing and building open source database solutions for electronic medical record solutions, and consequently is the subject of my leading the department’s study abroad initiative in Ghana, West Africa.  My other main area of focus is N-Tier web development, because the potential of the Internet really excites me.  I have extensive knowledge and practical experience in relational database design/modeling as well as dynamic web programming with Microsoft .NET. Since the beginning of my Information Systems career I have been responsible for designing, programming, and maintaining several database structures and web sites used within the United States Air Force. The database platforms that I have used are Sybase, MySQL, and MS SQL Server. I am also proficient in Visual Basic.NET, C#, ADO.NET, and ASP.NET technologies. Recently, I have been experimenting with XNA Game Programming.

Biggest Accomplishment in CS: Some of the highlights of my career involve managing a help desk for several thousand Air Force users, building the first mobile computer deployment kits for troops stationed in Iraq, administrating a working capital fund database for the Department of Defense, with over $4.5 Million in assets, and supervising the design and delivery of an electronic medical records system for a 1700 bed hospital in Ghana, West Africa.

Something Interesting: I'm from Montana, and have always wanted to see the world. I love to travel to faraway places, and have visited all 50 states, and 47 countries in the past 13 years…despite speaking only English.  My favorite?  New Zealand!  In between travels, I love to hike, ski, and gourmet cook (with particular focus on wine pairings). I’m also retired from the US Air Force Reserves (after 23 years of service) - thanks to all those who currently serve (or have served) our country!
