Welcome to the Weber State University College of Science.

We live in an exciting time. The pace of scientific discoveries and technological advances is unprecedented in human history:

  • The human genome has been successfully mapped, heralding a new era of research into diseases and their cures.

  • We have detected more than 100 planets around other stars, leading to advances in research in extra-solar planetary systems.

  • A tool originally developed to transmit scientific data among researchers has now become the World Wide Web, revolutionizing communications, commerce and information access.

  • The nuclear magnetic resonance machine, a standard research tool of chemistry and physics laboratories, has evolved into the powerful device known as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

These are just a very few of the numerous advances that have occurred in recent years.

Faculty members of the College of Science at WSU are distinguished scholars and researchers, committed to providing you with the finest possible undergraduate education. Some have written widely used textbooks in human anatomy, astrophysics and chemistry. Others have engaged in research using WSU’s on-campus DNA laboratory, the Hubble Space Telescope, or the university’s national supercomputer facilities. Faculty members also have traveled around the world to study how non-western cultures use plants for medicinal purposes, or to investigate fossil remains.

As a student majoring in one of the seven disciplines within the College of Science, you will have a tremendous opportunity to learn from top faculty and work side-by-side with them in undergraduate research projects. I hope that you will consider a major in one of the life sciences, physical sciences or mathematics. The opportunities and rewards are boundless!
